Dallas RFC Banquet Short Review

Posted on Tuesday 11 July 2006

Once again the Dallas RFC players of past and present came together for the final stage of the past years rugby. The event was held at Ozona’s Bar and Grill on Lower Greenville. The meeting place was the large back room that in years past was as dark as a mile deep cave. This year – Ozona had added in two huge sky lights that shed light on some ugly rugby players.

We started the evening off enjoying some lies and beers. The food lines opened and everyone seemed to enjoy the chicken fried steak which was delicious. Club President Ted gave some short and to the point remarks before turning things over to Old Timer and Hall of Famer Chuck Lueckemeyer. Chuck gave his legendary speeches for the three new Hall of Famers: Joe McKenna, Stewart “Tui” Nolan, and Danny Polcari. Joe showed up with old school hardware and Tui gave a speech and actually used the stage and actually talked less than 5 minutes. Glad to have these guys on board.

Next we moved in a lighter mood to resurrect some older traditions of Awards of a not so serious kind.

Drunkard Award – going to the individual displaying the ability to be drunk and be stupid.

Bruce Lee Roy Award – Bruce Lee is a bad ass fighter. Bruce Lee Roy is not so much a fighter nor is his decision making skills the best.

Green Card Award – going to the lovely ladies who help keep foreigners in America.

Most Considerate Award – going to the male or female who shows to be the greatest of help in times of need

Drunkard Award was a no brainier and went to Martin who threw a brick through his car window because the keys didn’t work only to figure out it wasn’t his car. Nate Stephenson stood in for Martin in his absence.

Bruce Lee Roy Award – we has co-winners of Fast Frank and Kevin Clark. Fast Frank did his sloppy rendition of a Bruce Lee round house kick that looked more like a sloppy ballet move. This was done in the Woodlands game 2 meters from the ref. Kevin Clark won for his love to beat up college players or high school kids.

Green Card Award was awarded to the lovely Ryane Whitcomb for helping Dallas RFC Full Back/ Wing Karl Whitcomb to keep his home in Dallas.

Most Considerate Award went to Big Al. Big Al waited for Warren to be pleasured by a female. Big Al was worried if he left – then the lady might stop – ruining the fun for Warren. Very thought Big Al.

So, the jokes were awarded and each individual has now been officially “Ducked”. Hence, the future of these awards could possibly be called the “Ducked Awards”.

The remaining of the night went to the team awards:

Leather Balls – Rhys Ball

New Comer of the Year – Jason Andrews

Rookie of the Year – Derrick Thomas

1st XV Back for the Year – Warren DeLoach

2nd XV back of the Year – Aaron Shnider

1st XV Forward of the Year – Rhys Ball

2nd XV Forward of the Year – Kurt Spitzenberger

Dallas Cup Winner – Ted Hill

Congratulations to all the 2005 - 2006 award winners.

Great time with great awards for a great rugby team.
